May 2007
During the 2007 school year, the MDP company had the privilege of guest teaching and assisting with choreography of dance programs at South Miami Middle School and Arvida Middle School.
September 2006 to May 2007
As in 2006, the year began with 10 deserving children receiving full scholarships to New Image Dance Center, home of the Miami Dance Project. Awarded on the basis of true financial need, talent grade point average and attitude, these MDP scholarships are responsible for all of their dance related financial necessities from September to May.
MIAMI DANCE PROJECT 2006
The Miami Dance Project began its year by presenting 10 deserving children/young adults with a full dance scholarship to New Image Dance Center. The scholarship recipients would have not been able to further develop their talent without financial aid from the MDP. It has been the Miami Dance Projects privilege to support these individuals and provide opportunities that will assist in developing their talent, as well as their social skills to promote community interaction, and aspire attainable goals.
In March of 2006 the Miami Dance Project Company presented " Choreographers Fusion" at the Manuel Airtime Theater in Downtown Miami. The MDP was able to share the Dance Companies mesmerizing performance by donating 100 tickets to the Boys and Girls Club, 40 tickets to Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs "Culture Shock" program, and offered 20 tickets to a senior community "The Palace". The MDP filled the theater of 400 plus seats, and set prescience for excellence in all the Miami Dance Projects endeavors.
In the summer of 2006 the Miami Dance Project held the first dance intensive summer camp. The MDP Company and artistic director Barbara Delgado trained 18 children ages 10 to 12 years from Miami Dade lower income areas for 8 weeks, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 4:00 pm. There were no fees for these children to attend the camp, and no financial stress was placed on the families. The MDP provided the financial support for these children. The children went on field trips, had arts and crafts, and were issued tee shirts for their end of camp performance. Preparations are now underway for the 2007 Summer Dance Camp.
The Miami Dance Project ended 2006 in December by donating needed toys to the KRISTI HOUSE located in the Civic Center near Jackson Hospital. The Kristi House is a place for abused children 3 to 18 years of age. The MDP has the honor of participating in future events with the Kristi House on a regular basis. The MDP will hold dance workshops and is committed to perform at fundraisers. The MDP feels privileged to be associated with the Kristi House. Barbara Delgado and Pamela Mekras invite you to be a part of the 2007 Miami Dance Project.
